Rooted Coffee & Cacao Farm

We are Rooted

 

In 2014, we started searching for the perfect cup of coffee, and asked ourselves-- why not cultivate our own? Paying homage to the labor of our ancestors through coffee farming, and producing the very coffee that connects us universally. 

Our roots stem from my grandfather, who was a coffee farmer in the 1960s through the 1980s. He grew Liberica and Robusta. Back then, coffee was processed manually, brewed and tasted every morning. 


Our farm is now building upon this foundation-- growing not only coffee, but adding the ‘Three Cs’-- coffee, cacao, coconut. Though these Three Cs are native to the Aborlan flora, they are not commonly grown locally, and instead imported. This is especially true with coffee. We recognized the need and opportunity to produce coffee with highest quality standard. The challenge for us now is to grow coffee Arabica, Bago Typica and the almost extinct Liberica (Barako in the Philippines) in the rich soils of the Palawan Mountain Range. 


Why can’t Liberica develop into a specialty coffee in the near future? Our efforts strive to make it so and bring Philippine-grown specialty coffee to the forefront. 


Our mission is to honor the agricultural farming roots of our ancestors with present-day farming methods that uphold the integrity and sustainability of our products, while giving back to the community and Palawan’s local Tagbanwa members.


Rooted is a highland tropical plantation started in 2015 situated in Aborlan, Palawan, Philippines where we grow our 3 Cs (coffee, cacao (chocolate), coconut), and a variety of native tropical fruits. Palawan's lush forests is home to our 3 Cs + native fruits. Our hope is to bring these products to the forefront to support the Palawan community and share what we've grown for you to learn and enjoy. 

 


We are a 1 hour drive located 60 kilometers south of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines. Our plantation is a sustainable organic farm. Here you will discover the cycle of coffee and cacao production process as you tour the farm from seed to cup.
