Coffee
Our coffee is mainly propagated by seed. Seeds are sown in a seedbed prepared mix soils/compost. Seedlings are planted in polyethylene bag with soil 8-12 weeks after sowing when they have 2-4 pair of leaves. They are transplanted into the field when they have developed 6-8 pairs of leaves which under normal circumstances will be 8-10 months after sowing. The time of transplanting should ideally coincide with the onset of rainy season.

LIBERICA Coffee (kape Barako in the Philippines) is the majority of coffee beans grown in our farm. Philippines is one of only 4 or 5 more countries that still produces Liberica Coffee.
The Philippines produces 2% of the world's Liberica coffee, also known as kape barako. This heirloom variety offers a unique flavor profile with smoky, nutty, jackfruit, and dark chocolate notes. A cultural staple for over 200 years, Liberica is struggling to attract the younger generation, presenting a hidden gem waiting to be rediscovered. Some question whether it can find a place among third-wave coffee enthusiasts.
Other Coffee Varieties We Grow
ARABICA TYPICA S795 is the most widely planted Arabica variety in India and Southeast Asia. It is known for its balanced flavor and subtle notes and is a cross between C. Arabica and C. Liberica, including the Kents variety.
Robusta and Excelsa are the other two varieties we grow at Rooted Farm.
ROBUSTA delivers a coffee that boasts richer crema, powerful antioxidants, and a bold caffeine boost, ensuring an invigorating experience with every cup. It gives high yielding crops and is disease and bug resistant. Robusta has double the amount of caffeine compared to Arabica. Interesting fact- it's caffeine acts a pest deterrent.
EXCELSA coffee has a complex flavor profile influenced by region, altitude, and processing methods. This variety is tart, exudes fruity, spicy notes, and has mild acidity and bitterness.
